Accountable to: House Leader (resident manager)/Community Coordinator
Overall Function: The primary focus of the respite worker is to enable the L'Arche Community to provide quality care and facilitate quality of life for the Core Members*. Those individuals providing respite/coverage are asked to respect the life in the homes of which they are a part and the principles by which L'Arche operates (Please refer to Charter of L'Arche). Functions include:
- Carry out the responsibilities agreed to by worker and Community Coordinator
- Support House Leader (resident manager) and house assistants in their roles
- Respect the spirituality of L'Arche
Specific Responsibilities:
- Be part of a house team.
- Take responsibilities for clear, honest communication among team members and within the community as a whole.
- Promote mutual support and responsibility among team.
- Be a presence to the core members.
- Enable the core members to develop their potential in social and personal skills by providing direct care for all appropriate physical, medical, emotional social needs.
- Work along side the core members so as to promote solidarity and self-esteem and maximize independence.
- Assist in the implementation of the core members IISP goals.
- Accurately record the core members' daily tasks and activities on designated log journal sheets, activity calendars and medical sheets.
- Accompany core members to medical appointments, shopping, social activities etc.
- Lifting, transferring, and/or physical therapy, as required, with the core members.
- Communicate with other agencies or parents/guardians in a professional manner.
Work Environment:
- Share responsibility for a healthy quality of life for core members.
- Be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly home.
Requirements:
- CPR/First Aid Training, including Blood Borne Pathogens, (kept updated)
- Washington State Driver's license and background clearance
- Two step TB Test and Washington State Food Handlers card
- 28 hour Fundamentals of Care-Giving (within 120 days)
- Nurse Delegation training, and Nursing Assistant registration
Evaluation: To be evaluated by the House Leader/ Community Coordinator.
* Core Member = client/resident with developmental disabilities.
